Mercury Marine is producing electric outboard motors. Mercury’s new 20e and 35e Avator electric propulsion systems began production last summer, with a release for sale late in 2023. Mercury launched its first electric propulsion product, the Avator 7.5e, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January of 2023 and recently began shipments to dealers worldwide. Mercury has committed to the introduction of five total Avator products. Mercury says the Avator 20e model can accelerate a 12-foot Lund WC-12 boat at a similar rate as a 5hp four-stroke outboard, while the 35e model’s acceleration is similar to a 9.9hp four-stroke. Electric engines offer smooth, quiet propulsion.
